LUCKNOW: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attacked the Congress over an alleged fish feast held in Ayodhya during the holy month of Sawan. The BJP has accused newly appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai of displaying “duplicity” by visiting the Hanumangarhi temple before attending a programme where fish was allegedly served.
Yogi intensified the attack with a sharp remark, saying that “even a chameleon would be put to shame” by what he described as contradictory behaviour. The controversy has quickly developed into a wider political battle over religious sentiment, food practices and Congress's approach to Hindu traditions.
What triggered the controversy?
The dispute centres on a programme organised in Ayodhya's Tarun area by members of the Nishad community. The event was held to welcome Ajay Rai after his appointment as Uttar Pradesh Congress chief.
