Josh Hazlewood Reaches 300 Test Wickets, Joins Australia’s Bowling Greats

Darwin, August 15, 2026: Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has entered an exclusive chapter of Australian cricket history after claiming his 300th Test wicket during the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin.

Hazlewood became only the ninth Australian bowler to reach the 300-wicket landmark in Test cricket, underlining his remarkable consistency and longevity at the highest level.

Historic milestone in Darwin

The landmark came during a standout bowling performance from Hazlewood, who finished with 6 wickets for 89 runs as Australia battled Bangladesh at Marrara Oval. He had already taken two wickets on the second day before adding four more on day three to complete his six-wicket haul and reach the historic 300-wicket mark.

The achievement was particularly significant because Hazlewood was returning to Test cricket after an absence of more than a year. His comeback immediately made an impact, demonstrating that his accuracy, discipline and ability to extract movement remain major weapons for Australia.

Ninth Australian to the landmark

Reaching 300 Test wickets places Hazlewood alongside some of the most celebrated bowlers in Australian cricket. The 300-wicket club represents an extraordinary level of sustained performance because Test cricket demands consistency over long spells, multiple matches and changing conditions.

Hazlewood's achievement also strengthens his standing among Australia's leading wicket-takers. Cricket Australia had previously noted that he passed 250 Test wickets during the 2023-24 summer and entered Australia's top 10 Test wicket-takers.

A milestone built on accuracy

Unlike bowlers who rely heavily on extreme pace, Hazlewood has built his reputation around accuracy, patience and relentless pressure. His ability to repeatedly land the ball in dangerous areas has made him one of Australia's most dependable Test bowlers.

His bowling style has often drawn comparisons with former Australian great Glenn McGrath, particularly because of his disciplined line and length. Over the course of his Test career, Hazlewood has become a key component of Australia's pace attack alongside Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.

A remarkable comeback

The timing of the milestone made it even more memorable. Hazlewood had spent more than 13 months away from Test cricket before returning against Bangladesh. His six-wicket performance provided an immediate reminder of his importance to Australia's long-format plans.

His return also came as Australia continues to manage a demanding international schedule and carefully balance its fast-bowling resources. Hazlewood's successful comeback gives the team another proven match-winner heading into a busy period of Test cricket.

Australia still under pressure

Despite Hazlewood's personal triumph, Australia faced a difficult situation in the Darwin Test. Bangladesh produced a strong first-innings total of 426, leaving Australia trailing by 228 runs. By the close of the third day, Australia had reached 161 for four, still 67 runs behind.

Cameron Green and Alex Carey were at the crease at stumps, attempting to prevent Bangladesh from taking complete control of the match.

For Hazlewood, however, the day will be remembered for a different reason. By reaching 300 Test wickets, he has added his name to one of Australian cricket's most prestigious statistical clubs.

At a time when Australia's bowling attack is undergoing a period of transition and workload management, Hazlewood's milestone serves as another reminder of the extraordinary consistency that has made him one of the country's premier Test fast bowlers.
